Once On This Island, Jr.
Book and lyrics by Lynn Ahrens. Music by Stephen Flaherty.
Based on the story My Love, My Love by Rosa Guy.

Directed by Timothy D. Turner
Musical Direction by Timothy D. Turner

This highly original and theatrical Caribbean adaptation of the popular fairy tale “The Little Mermaid” sings and dances the story of Ti Moune, the black peasant girl who rescues, nurses and falls in love with Daniel, a mulatto from a wealthy family. When Daniel is returned to his people, the gods who rule the island guide Ti Moune on a quest to test the strength of her love against the powerful forces of prejudice, hatred and death. “Once On This Island” is a director/choreographer’s dream, an intimate show presented in a dance/movement-driven style reminiscent of story theatre, with minimal – though colorful – sets and costumes that capture the imagination of the audience. Its catchy, contemporary, and Caribbean-flavored score by the Tony® Award-winning songwriting team of Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty (“Ragtime” and the animated film “Anastasia”) includes tender ballads and rousing celebratory numbers for an ensemble cast of strong singers.

You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown
Based on the Comic Strip "PEANUTS" by Charles M. Schulz adapted by Clark Gesner with Music By Clark Gesner

Directed by Sidney McCall
Musical Direction by Timothy D. Turner

Production by Verve Theater Company of Oviedo, Florida

The time of the action is an "average day in the life of Charlie Brown." It really is just that, a day made up of little moments picked from all the days of Charlie Brown, from Valentine's Day to the baseball season, from wild optimism to utter despair, all mixed up with the lives of his friends, (both human and non-human) and strung together on the string of a single day, from bright, uncertain morning to hopeful, starlit evening.  All the well-known figures are present; Charlie, of course, Lucy, Linus, Schroeder, and even the dog, Snoopy. The vignettes depicting them follow no real pattern, seeming almost as haphazard as their childish world. After an opening paean to Charlie, Lucy dreams of being a queen and bossing the world. Linus sings of his need for a security blanket, Snoopy plans to capture the Red Baron while a baseball game degenerates into a poll gauging Lucy's popularity. In the end the youngsters and the dog each give his or her idea of what true happiness is with Charlie Brown concluding "happiness is anything and anyone that's loved by you."

Noonie’s Masterpiece in Purple
by Lisa Railsback
Directed by Darlene J. Stewart

Auditions March 7 & 8

Noonie Norton is a "brilliant" 10-year-old artist just waiting to be discovered. Her mother died when she was just a baby, and Dad is traveling the world solving important peace matters, leaving Noonie with relatives who can't fully appreciate fine art, much less the abstract paintings that Noonie creates. Uncle Ralph is an unemployed, pool-playing salesman, Aunt Sylvia is obsessed with clean teeth, and Cousin Junior is a teen terrorist obsessed with aliens. But Noonie is inspired by the eclectic art teacher who tells her that artists have the power to change the world. She enthusiastically creates an abstract painting of her relatives for the school art contest. "They'll love it and then they'll love me," she optimistically proclaims. But the relatives loathe it and confiscate her paints. "You will never paint again!" they jeer. The spirits of van Gogh, Picasso and O’Keeffe who, with support and empathy, tell her that an artist never quits, and Noonie ultimately learns that artists do have the power to change the world visits Noonie.

Ever wonder what it would have been like if the wild and crazy Steve Martin had written a comedic episode of "The Twilight Zone"? Well, wonder no more. The zany actor/comedian took Off-Broadway by storm with his first comedy, set in the Lapin Agile bar in 1904 Paris. Two of the regulars, twenty-somethings Pablo Picasso and Albert Einstein, both on the verge of breakthroughs that would stamp their names indelibly on the century, argue about the art of physics and the physics of art.  Meanwhile the space/time/culture continuum ruptures, and they are joined by a figure from the future who seems to be…well you’ll just have to see the show!

Sister Amnesia’s Nunsense Jamboree
Book, Music & Lyrics by Dan Goggin
Directed by Rosemary Sutton
Musical Direction by Timothy D. Turner

Production by Sands Theater Center Mainstage of DeLand, Florida

In NUNSENSE I, when a wacky nun known as Sister Mary Amnesia regained her memory she recalled that she always wanted to be a country singer. In NUNSENSE II her dream became one step closer to reality when Reverend Mother landed a recording contract for her. In this show, NUNSENSE JAMBOREE, her dream has been realized as she headlines a brand new show promoting her debut album "I Could've Gone to Nashville." Cheered by audiences and critics alike as funny and fast-paced, this hilarious hoe-down is NUNSENSE fun with a Laugh-In-Hee-Haw-Grand-Ole-Op'ry slant. Outrageously funny musical numbers include I Could've Gone To Nashville, Everyday of the Week Is a Saturday, Do Unto Others, The Delta Queen, We Miss You, Patsy Cline, A Technicolor Woman and Growing Up in Brooklyn. You say you're not a country music fan? Don't worry-this country music is "NUNSENSE Theatrical Style" guaranteed to please any NUNSENSE fan!
