Act Like a F$&*ing Person: Scene Work for Humans
Instructors Max McCal & Rob Alesaini | Endgames Improv & Philly Improv Theater | Saturday 10A-12P @ American Stage Room 210
Real improv is good improv. There’s a reason why Del, Charna, and Kim named their book “Truth in Comedy.” But why is it that so many improvisers hit the stage and feel the feed to fill every blank space with huge, unjustified, unexplained absurdity? This workshop will approach scene-work from the perspective that every single weird thing your character does makes perfect sense to them, and that there is a reason behind each of their actions. From this place of honesty, we can begin to have rich scenes that are about people and relationships, rather than stuff and jokes. Taking this approach, you’ll never be at a loss for what to do next in a scene because your decisions will be the natural next action for your character. Join us and learn to act like a f&%*ing person.

Connect, Confess, Convey
Instructor Kat Kenny | Friends With Benefits | Saturday 10A-12P @ American Stage Room 122
The scene isn’t about the who, what, where, plot - it’s about the relationship. We know this - how do we get there? What does it mean to have “relationship driven scenes?” Group exercises and two person scenes focus on the emotional connection between you and your scene partner. Feel the difference between saying how you feel vs. showing it. Learn how to listen - not just to the words being said, but to the intent behind them. Embrace your emotional point of view and trust that you are enough. This class will be safe, playful, full of personal notes, and has the potential to be a real game changer for you as an improviser.
