Orlando actors Karla Sue
Schultz, Meggin Weaver, and Brandon Roberts formed Ghostlight Theatre Ensemble in November of 2004.
Perhaps by happenstance, the three found themselves in the right place,
at the right time, with the right people. So, then they needed a
name... A ghostlight is a standing lamp,
typically left in the center of the stage once a theatre has closed at the end
of the day. It provides the next person in the theatre a means of seeing
their way in the darkness. This symbol of optimism and encouragement was
one that each feels represents what theatre is, and what they hope to bring to
everyone with whom they cross paths, onstage and off.
The Cabaret Gala marks the first of many years for
one of Orlando’s newest professional theatre companies. Ghostlight’s first
production was a cabaret of the many colors of Love, entitled Love Crossing. Although at this time no detailed information
on the theme or actual title of the cabaret event is available, this will
indeed be “a can’t miss” production. Below is more information about the company
founders:
Karla Sue Schultz has appeared on stages in Florida, North Carolina and New
York. Locally she has been seen at Orlando Rep (School House Rock and
Honk), Mark Two (Sugar Babies and Guys
and Dolls to name a few) and Orlando Broadway (1776, Fiddler on
the Roof, and Lend Me a Tenor). Currently, Karla Sue is
performing at Universal Studios in Beetlejuice's
Graveyard Review as the Bride of Frankenstein, Hip and Hop as well as Walt
Disney World in My Disney Girl's Perfectly Princess Tea Party as Rose
Petal. For Ghostlight, she performed in Love
Crossing, portrayed numerous roles in the Romeo and Juliet tour, and
recently was backstage for Brillant Traces
helping with marketing and box office.
Meggin Weaver is
originally from Clearwater, FL. She holds a BA in English and French from
Furman University, and lives in Kissimmee with her husband, Ronnie. As
one of Ghostlight's founding members, Meggin appeared as one of the Ensemble Singers in our first
production, Love Crossing, A Celebration of Love in
Song, Dance, and Stories, and assumed the role of Juliet in our four person
touring production of Romeo and Juliet. Meggin
is an indispensable member of the Ghostlight, serving
also as assistant marketing director, education coordinator, director of
research/dramaturgy, and company chef! Email Meggin:
meggin@ghostlightonstage.com.
Brandon Roberts is a transplant to Orlando from North Carolina. He was about to
turn tail and head back north after being greeted by the hurricanes of '04, but
Orlando's theatre community won him over. In his first year in the area,
Brandon has been fortunate enough to appear on stage with Orlando REP (Rabbit,Winnie the Pooh),
Orlando Theatre Project (Western Civilization, the Complete
Musical), and the Orlando Shakespeare Festival (Snug, A Midsummer
Night's Dream). For Ghostlight,
Brandon took on numerous roles in the Romeo and Juliet tour, assumed the
role of Director for Love Crossing and Brilliant Traces, and has
been handling the graphic design duties as well as managing the website you are
enjoying currently. His first shows in Orlando
were with the former Orlando Broadway Dinner Theatre (Deputy, The Mystery of
Edwin Drood; Finch, How To Succeed In Business
Without Really Trying) where the winds had also blown Karla and Meggin, and after facing the adversity of a theatre closing
down while you are working there, here we are, making the best lemonade we
can. Email me: brandoleo@ghostlightonstage.com.
