From 10 a.m.-2 p.m. this Saturday and Sunday, May 16-17, the Orlando Fringe Festival presents free children's arts activities at the Mennello Museum of American Art in Loch Haven Park. The Kids Fringe, as it's known, repeats the following weekend with the same schedule.
At Kids Fringe, guests can watch child-friendly theater, music, magic and dance performances, take creative movement and drum classes under the Mayor Tree, stroll with puppets and crazy characters and play dress-up with theatrical costumes.
Other activities include bug races, bike decorating, duct-tape art, waltzing lessons with the theatrical "Phantasmagoria" troupe and special appearances by Fringezilla — the Fringe's friendly dinosaur-like mascot.
Among this year's performers and presenters are: IBEX Puppetry, Voci Dance, Orlando Ballet, Mad Science, 3rd Wheel Educational Drumming, Crealde School of Art. Musical acts include The Outertoons, Mr. Harley, and Davey Rocker & the Barnyard Jam.
Each day of Kids Fringe features a unique theme: "Carnival," May 16; "Rainbow Bright," May 17; "Come Join the Parade," May 23; and "Puppet Party," May 24.
The Mennello, by the way, is across Princeton Street from the main Fringe action; it's tucked away near the Orlando Science Center parking garage.
