The year is 1938. It's Saturday night in Mount Pleasant, NC, and the Reverend Oglethorpe has invited the Sanders Family Singers to provide an upliftin' evening of singin' and witnessin'. The audience is invited to pull up a pew and join in the rollicking good time. More than two dozen songs, many of them vintage pop hymns, and hilarious stories from the more or less devout Sanders provide a richly entertaining evening that has audiences clapping, singing, laughing and cheering. You'll be treated to gospel songs, such as "I'll Fly Away" and "Church in the Wildwood" along with the comedic antics of the actors who portray the black sheep in each of our families. If you want something out of the ordinary, this show is exactly what you've been looking for.

Three Days … seventy-two hours… and in that remarkable brief amount of time, our eternity was forever changed.  By concentrating on the events of that astonishing weekend almost 2,000 years ago, we bring the message of Easter into a new, vivid and above all personal focus.  Between the agony of Friday’s cross and the victory of Sunday’s empty tomb, there was a day of unspeakable hopelessness, as a grieving people considered a world without redemption.  Three Days begins with the announcement from John the Baptist stating that Jesus, the carpenter from Nazareth, actually was “the lamb of Go who takes away the sins of the world.”

Martin Luther (1483-1546) dealt the symbolic blow that began the Reformation when he nailed his Ninety-Five Theses to the door of the Wittenberg Church. That document contained an attack on papal abuses and the sale of indulgences by church officialsof the Catholic Church.  But Luther himself saw the Reformation as something far more important than a revolt against ecclesiastical abuses. He believed it was a fight for the gospel. Luther even stated that he would have happily yielded every point of dispute to the Pope, if only the Pope had affirmed the gospel.  And at the heart of the gospel, in Luther's estimation, was the doctrine of justification by faith--the teaching that Christ's own righteousness is imputed to those who believe, and on that ground alone, they are accepted by God.  Luther became an Augustinian monk in 1505, disappointing his equally strong-willed father, who wished him to become a lawyer. Luther's Theses, which outlined his theological argument against the use of indulgences, were based on the notion that Christianity is fundamentally a phenomenon of the inner world of human beings and had little or nothing to do with the outer world, such as temporal punishments. It is this fundamental argument, not the controversy of the indulgences themselves, that most people in the church disapproved of and that led to Luther's being hauled into court in 1518 to defend his arguments against the cardinal Cajetan. Luther believed in a fellowship of believers all are all priests.  We all have the power to understand God’s word.  No believer in God needs another to interpret God for him or her.  Most of the European Enlightenment revolves around freedom and the project of "liberating" people: liberating them from false beliefs, from false religion, from arbitrary authority, etc.--that is, what we will be calling "liberation discourse." Westerners still participate in this Enlightenment project today. This idea of "liberating" people, so common to the international politics of our own period, comes out of Luther's idea of "freedom."

The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, Washington Irving's spooky classic, is presented with all the thrills, chills and laughs that keep young audiences on the edge of their seats.  The storybook tale revolves around the main characters--the bumbling, awkward schoolteacher, Ichabod Crane, the coquettish Katrina and Ichabod's brutish rival, Brom Bones.  As much fun as the play presents, it saves the best for last--the ride of the headless horseman. This adaptation remains dedicated to the spirit and storyline of Washington Irving's work and expertly involves young people with lots of suspense and comedy.  Audience participation is carefully written in the script and adds a spark of spontaneity. A perfect Halloween treat, but don't hesitate to put it anywhere in your season, Ichabod brings them out any time of year!

"This adaptation, by Kathryn Schultz Miller, is both funny and simple for a young audience to understand. an important consideration, full of shivers and merriment." - The Orlando Sentinel
