DECATUR -The sights and sounds that greet the holiday season for concert-goers in Decatur are back again: Millikin University’s 39th Christmas Vespers program is Sunday.
Shows are 3 and 7 p.m. in Kirkland Fine Arts Center at Millikin. Brad Holmes, choral activities director at the university, said the 3 p.m. show is nearly sold out, but plenty of seats are open for the later show.
“It’s a lot of color, a lot of mass music,” he said. “This year’s production is a program of all American music. It reaches back to the first-known Christmas carol of the New World, which is actually a French Indian carol, and it goes from there.”
“They are all singing at once,” he said of the 275 students. “The choirs surround the people and sort of make the audience part of the choir. It’s very festive, a real family event.”
Tickets cost $5 for adults, $3 for senior citizens and $2 for children and students. Families of at least four may buy tickets for $2 each. They are available at the Kirkland box office from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., or by calling the box office at 424-6318 and charging the tickets.
The box office opens at noon Sunday.
Before each concert, the university will hold a Renaissance buffet in Richards Treat University Center. They begin at 1 and 5 p.m. and cost $18, which includes the price of the concert.
